This very popular ornamental landscape tree is deciduous and medium sized. Emerging ruby-red in spring, the leaves turn dark reddish-purple in the summer. Emerging from deep pink buds in mid-spring, masses of fragrant, pale pink to white flowers smother the bare branches creating a breathtaking display. The blossoms give way to small edible fruits that attract birds and other wildlife.
